It’s quite fitting that I was asked to freelance for Thompson around the same time as the shooting season started this year, as I’m sure Thompson are aware I do like to manage my work time around shoot days. The brief stipulated that the subject matter should be something that interests us individually and that was current.
I’ve been shooting game for 21 years now, knowing the holy grail would be the Red Grouse and it was only this year that I was invited to shoot Red Grouse at the Bolton Abbey Estate… I snapped at the chance. Shooting is a controversial sport and there’s an argument for and against. Design is also a matter of personal preference — both miles apart, but beautiful design lasts, unfortunately not every beautiful Red Grouse does.
